Shown are just a few of the buddies that are available through
the Tony Gonzalez Foundation. Currently there are eleven
different conditions of Tony's buddies available, decked out in
his KC Chiefs gown, with his name and number 88 screened
on the back.
Each buddy is packaged with a mini stress football for
children and adults to use while in the hospital. The mini
football provided an opportunity for patients to relieve stress,
provides therapy for motor skills and an easy toss to play
with in the room.
Tony's buddies are available in the following
conditions:
- Burn Buddy - Buddy with a roll of kerlix dressing and
mask
- Day Surgery Buddy - Buddy with a belly button and
no defects
- Guardian Angel Buddy - Buddy with a very special
set of wings
- Heart Buddy - Buddy with incision down chest with a
mended heart
- Identification Buddy - Buddy with no face; children
can draw their own feelings and expressions for play
therapy
- Oncology Buddy - Buddy with hickman catheter,
thinning hair and mask
- Respiratory Buddy - Buddy with outline of lungs on
chest and inhaler in hand
- Seizure Buddy - Buddy with no defects and a little
helmet
- Senior Buddy - Buddy with graying hair and available
with glasses
- Sickle Cell Buddy - Buddy with sticks indicating blood draws on its
forearm and a face mask for procedures.
- Vision Buddy - Buddy with red eye glasses

Shadow Buddiesª are condition specific dolls designed to be a
friend, "just like me."
Designed through personal
experience with the help of
professionals to help ease fears and
frustrations of medically challenged
children. Inspired by a young man
who has endured over 40 major surgeries in 21 years of life, the
Buddies are given to seriously ill
and medically challenged children
to provide educational and
emotional support.
